Observations of people, work, and everyday life

Great marsh Shellfish Company, Rowley Massachusetts
Farmers of the Great Marsh Shellfish Company move among oyster cages that stretch across The Great Marsh, one of the state’s most pristine estuaries, where the water is clear and the currents slow. They haul cages across shallow mudflats, sometimes wading, sometimes working from small boats, tending oysters in a three-phase grow-out process. The estuary spreads to the horizon, its grasses swaying in the wind, water reflecting sky, and every motion feels shaped as much by the rhythms of the place as by the care of the hands that tend it.
